Curved Penis Surgery: How Do Pre- and Post-Op Care Work?

Crooked penis surgery aims to correct penile curvature. Medical follow-up is essential before opting for it. Most patients end up satisfied, with a straighter and firmer penis. Learn more about the procedure below.

Crooked penis surgery is recommended for men who have a congenital or acquired penile deformity—which may also cause erectile dysfunction. When properly indicated, the procedure is safe and recovery is straightforward.

Bear in mind that curvature does not always require this type of treatment. If it does not interfere with sexual relations or cause discomfort, monitoring is enough to ensure it remains stable over time.

However, if a curved penis leads to pain, embarrassment or sexual difficulty, crooked penis surgery may be necessary. Correcting the curvature helps prevent further issues, such as Peyronie’s disease, in which the bend tends to worsen.

There is no reason to be alarmed if you feel uneasy about surgery. The treatment is safe and recovery is quick. Keep reading and you will know exactly what to expect from crooked penis surgery.

Initial tests and planning for crooked penis surgery

The first step in surgical planning is to assess the case through several tests, including:

  • Anamnesis (medical history): gathers data on general health, medication use, family history and chronic diseases to guide the diagnosis.
  • Inspection and palpation of the penis: helps detect fibrosis or plaques by touch while the penis is flaccid.
  • Drug-induced erection: medication triggers an erection so the surgeon can evaluate curvature, length, girth and rigidity.
  • Rigidity testing: checks whether the penis reaches sufficient firmness for penetration, revealing signs of erectile dysfunction.
  • Penile Doppler ultrasound: analyses anatomy and blood flow to identify vascular causes of ED and confirm fibrosis.

Planning is important, but so is understanding functional, aesthetic and psychological impact. Proper treatment lets a man keep a healthy sex life, recover girth and length up to the nerve limit, and boosts self-confidence. If surgery is indeed needed, little extra preparation is required. Once planning and pre-op care are done, it is time to schedule the procedure to straighten the penis.

Pre-operative routine for crooked penis surgery

As with any operation, blood tests are ordered to avoid surprises. Fasting for eight hours—solid food and liquids—is also necessary. The patient receives instructions on cleaning the pubic area with antibacterial soap and taking antibiotics/antifungals—especially important for men with diabetes. A good night’s sleep the day before surgery is strongly advised.

What happens on the day of surgery

Crooked penis surgery lasts about two to three hours. It is performed under sedation with local anaesthesia and usually does not require an overnight stay: the patient checks in early morning and is home by early afternoon. Pubic hair trimming is done in the OR by the team—no need to worry, they follow strict infection-control measures. The procedure is best combined with penile reconstruction using the Egydio Technique to expand penile tissue. Other techniques straighten the penis but shorten it. With the Egydio Technique, the surgeon works on the short side, restoring length, girth and alignment—preparing the penis for a future prosthesis, if needed. If complete straightening is not achieved with the Egydio Technique alone, the Stage Technique can be added in the same session. This refinement uses micro-plications on the longer side without any loss of length.

Is the penis really erect during the operation?

Yes. During crooked penis surgery, the penis is kept in full erection with vasodilators and pressurised saline while the patient is sedated. This maximum erection lets the surgeon visualise all deformities and determine exactly where, how many and how large the relaxing incisions on the short side must be. It also allows immediate verification of the result; once alignment is perfect, the erection is reversed and the surgeon measures the penis for the implant.

Recovery after crooked penis surgery

Post-op follow-up takes place the same day. The surgeon checks the outcome and gives final instructions to ensure optimal healing. Your penis will be wrapped in a bandage that stays on for five days. After that, replace the dressing daily for another five days—you can do it at home. Penile physiotherapy may be recommended to guide straight scarring and maintain the length and girth restored. Medication to suppress erections during the first days helps avoid bruising, protect sutures and ensure efficient recovery. There are three milestones before resuming a normal life: return to desk work in 7–10 days, physical exercise in 30 days and sexual activity in 45–60 days. Absorbable sutures mean no future discomfort during sex; they dissolve naturally within two months.

You are never left alone
