The onset of puberty is a phase of discoveries and also of many doubts. This is the moment when the young person begins to discover themselves sexually, to have desires and wishes that come along with a series of uncertainties. Upon discovering erection, they begin to better perceive their penis, its size, shape, and characteristics.

Often everything is as expected and nothing brings discomfort. However, some young people who notice a bent penis tend to feel ashamed and therefore do not seek help or counseling, whether from a doctor or a family member. That’s why I always stress the importance of visiting a urologist at this stage. A professional evaluation helps to clarify the initial questions about the penis and to provide guidance for a healthy and safe sexual life.

But what happens when a man realizes he has a bent penis? What could be the implications, and what should he do to ensure that everything is fine with his buddy? That’s what we’ll find out in this post.

I Have a Bent Penis, Now What?

If you’ve noticed that your penis is bent when erect, there’s no need to panic. The curvature occurs due to differences in the elasticity of penile tissues, which can vary from case to case.

If this happens to you, know that you are not alone. According to The Journal of Urology (2005), it is estimated that penile curvature is present in between 3% and 6% of the male population.

There are cases where a man can lead a perfectly normal life. The only recommendation is to take extra care during sexual intercourse to avoid trauma from the curvature. For this, it is important to keep the penis well lubricated with specific products, avoid sudden movements, and be cautious in choosing positions, opting for those where you can better control the movement.

On the other hand, there are some cases where a bent penis can be a hindrance to a man’s sexual life and also to his partner’s. They can be genetic, meaning they are present in the man since birth, or it can be an acquired curvature, resulting from some erectile dysfunction problem or trauma that has caused the appearance of fibrosis in the penis.

In an interview with presenter Amaury Jr, Dr. Paulo Egydio teaches how to take care of the penis and when to be concerned.

Each case must be evaluated in person by a urologist for a correct diagnosis, but it is worth remembering that all situations are curable and should be treated with care and professionalism.

When the Penis is Bent due to Congenital Penile Curvature

Also known as Young Man’s Curved Penis, Congenital Penile Curvature has a genetic origin. This indicates that during penis formation, one side of the tissue had less elasticity, causing the curvature to one side, which can also be upward or downward.

Some men notice this curvature but have no complaints of pain or difficulty with penetration. In these cases, the problem should only be monitored by a urologist, who will assess whether the level of curvature is likely to worsen.

Usually, problems occur when the angle of curvature is greater than 30 degrees. This characteristic is usually associated with other symptoms such as difficulty in penetration, increased sensitivity in the glans that can lead to premature ejaculation, erectile dysfunction associated with loss of self-confidence, as well as pain and discomfort for the partner during sexual intercourse. These are some indications that it may be necessary to undergo treatment to straighten the penis.

The Relationship between Bent Penis and Peyronie’s Disease

Just like in Congenital Curvature, Peyronie’s Disease also causes penile curvature due to differences in the elasticity of penile tissues. However, acquired penile curvature (as Peyronie’s is also known) may be associated with an erection problem, which predisposes to the occurrence of traumas and microtraumas during sexual intercourse, causing the formation of fibrosis and deformities in the penis.

If your penis used to be straight but you have noticed it becoming bent, pay attention to the symptoms of Peyronie’s Disease and seek a urologist as soon as possible for a complete evaluation.

In this case, treatment will always be necessary. Everything will depend on the stage at which the disease is and this can only be assessed in a medical consultation. It is worth noting, however, that in almost all cases of Peyronie’s, surgery will be necessary. It is a simple procedure but it requires a high level of experience and knowledge from the urologist who will perform it, so it is worth knowing more about the different treatments for Peyronie’s Disease.

Now that you know the two main causes of a bent penis, it’s time to assess whether the curvature is congenital or acquired and whether the level of curvature may cause any problems for you. Only then will it be possible to indicate whether treatment is necessary and what would be the best option to correct the curvature.
