Articulated Penile Prosthesis Implant

The need for penile prostheses, and when they can be recommended for treating Erectile Dysfunction and Peyronie’s Disease, are prevalent questions among my patients. With that in mind, we developed a series of three blogs and videos about the types of penile prostheses and how to choose them. In this second blog, we will talk about the articulated penile prosthesis. You can check out the first blog about the malleable prosthesis by clicking here.

Articulated Penile Prosthesis

The articulated prosthesis can be folded more easily than the malleable one, because, inside, several joints allow it to be hidden in the clothes more easily. However, these joints offer a worse rigidity in penetration, which we may also call low vertical or axial rigidity. This lack of firmness, mainly present in thinner prostheses, can result in a poor penetrative capability for the patient.

Achieving greater axial rigidity with the larger caliber implant models is possible. However, for a prosthesis to be better implanted and give the expected results, a Penile Reconstruction is necessary.

Through vertical incisions to ensure better girth and horizontal incisions to ensure a larger penis size within the limits of science, it is possible to implant a thicker articulated prosthesis that will provide the patient with the best possible rigidity for penetration.

The articulable penile prosthesis model is less popular than other models, but it’s important for you to know about its existence to clear up any of your doubts. To guide you on how to know if you need a penile prosthesis, I wrote a blog that you can access by clicking here.

Below you will find the second of three videos where I talk about the models of penile prostheses. In it, you will see the malleable models that we’ve also discussed in this blog.
