Does Hyaluronic Acid Correct Penile Curvature? When It’s Indicated and Potential Benefits

Hyaluronic acid in the correction of penile curvature is a non-surgical alternative under investigation. Several studies report encouraging findings, but it is important to stress that this option is considered for the inflammatory phase of Peyronie’s disease. Learn more!

Hyaluronic acid in the correction of penile curvature may be considered for Peyronie’s disease. It is a non-invasive alternative that may benefit some men.

Injections, administered directly into the penis, have been studied with a focus on anatomical changes and impacts on sexual function, but evidence remains inconclusive.

However, this approach is not indicated for all men with Peyronie’s. Keep reading to learn when hyaluronic acid may be prescribed, its potential benefits, and possible side effects, based on scientific evidence.

What are the benefits and limitations of this technique?

Although treatment with hyaluronic acid for penile curvature is an option for the early phase of Peyronie’s disease (also called the acute phase), its effectiveness still requires more robust scientific confirmation.

Studies, such as the one published in International Urology and Nephrology, have analyzed the effectiveness of hyaluronic acid for correcting penile curvature. One of these studies involved about 160 men.

However, the initial results — which indicated some improvement in curvature and penile rigidity — still need to be confirmed by longer-term studies with a larger number of participants. The researchers did not observe relevant side effects in the analyzed study, but emphasized that the findings are preliminary and do not allow definitive conclusions.

Other preliminary studies, such as the article “Intralesional Injection of Hyaluronic Acid in Patients Affected With Peyronie’s Disease: Preliminary Results From a Prospective, Multicenter, Pilot Study,” observed improvements in some patients after 12 months. Nevertheless, the results remain preliminary and require confirmation in larger, controlled trials.

Is hyaluronic acid in the penis safe?

Even when appropriately indicated and performed, this minimally invasive technique for penile curvature cannot yet be considered established as safe, as more studies are needed.

Although early research suggests that hyaluronic acid may have beneficial effects on scarring and inflammation associated with Peyronie’s disease, its safety and effectiveness are not yet fully established.

Therefore, it is essential that patients discuss all treatment alternatives with a urologist, bearing in mind that hyaluronic acid is a non-surgical option still under investigation.

How much does a hyaluronic acid procedure for the penis cost?

The cost of hyaluronic acid injections for correcting penile curvature can reach around R$10,000 per session, while prosthesis surgery — indicated for more severe cases — can cost up to R$80,000.

This amount considers the use of an imported product developed to withstand the impact of sexual activity, in addition to specialized clinical evaluation.

Given the lack of conclusive evidence regarding the results of hyaluronic acid in the penis, the procedure may be considered high-cost — especially because maintenance sessions may be required.

Could hyaluronic acid be a viable alternative?

It is still not possible to state that hyaluronic acid injections in the penis allow penile correction without surgery, since further studies are needed.

When indicated, this option should be performed exclusively by a urologist. Laboratory and imaging tests, such as X-ray and ultrasound, may be necessary before starting treatment.
