Does Growth Hormone Increase Penis Size or Is It Just a Myth?

There is no evidence that growth hormone increases penis size in adult men. The growth hormone plays an important role in body development during childhood and adolescence, but does not promote penile growth after puberty ends.

Penis size is a common concern among many men, in part because cultural aspects associate virility and masculinity with the dimensions of the genital organ. Therefore, treatments that promise to increase penis size often attract interest.

One of these promises involves the use of GH (growth hormone). Although its primary function is to stimulate growth and development in men with a deficiency of this hormone, some people believe that it can also increase penis size.

But is this true or just a myth? Below, understand how growth hormone works in the body and what science really says about its relationship with penile growth.

What is growth hormone?

Growth hormone is produced by the pituitary gland, located at the base of the brain. Its function is to stimulate the growth of bones and cartilage during childhood and adolescence, which is why it is known as growth hormone.

However, its action is not limited to the early stages of life. In adulthood, growth hormone continues to perform important functions related to tissue growth and maintenance, protein synthesis, and metabolism.

Growth hormone also does not act alone. When it reaches the liver, it stimulates the production of IGF-1 (insulin-like growth factor type 1), a protein hormone that circulates in the bloodstream and promotes cell growth and renewal.

Together, growth hormone and IGF-1 form what is called the GH/IGF-1 axis, responsible for various processes in the body, including:

  • Tissue growth: growth hormone stimulates the production of IGF-1, which promotes cell multiplication and growth of muscles, bones, and other tissues.
  • Protein synthesis: both participate in the production and maintenance of proteins in the body, contributing to muscle growth, injury recovery, and preservation of lean mass.
  • Metabolism: growth hormone stimulates the use of fat as an energy source, while IGF-1 helps tissues utilize nutrients. Together, they influence the balance between muscle mass, body fat, and glucose metabolism.

Does growth hormone increase penis size?

There is no evidence that growth hormone increases penis size in men without growth hormone deficiency. However, it may contribute to penile development in specific cases of micropenis associated with congenital growth hormone deficiency.

A study that evaluated patients with micropenis and congenital growth hormone deficiency investigated whether hormone replacement therapy would be able to promote penile growth.

The results indicated that growth hormone therapy can help these patients achieve a penis size within the normal range.

This relationship between growth hormone and penile growth occurs because the hormone participates in the development of various tissues in the body, including genital tissues, during growth phases.

These results apply to individuals with proven growth hormone deficiency. In men who have normal hormone levels and have completed puberty, there is no evidence that growth hormone use promotes an increase in penis size.

What increases penis size?

There are no treatments to increase penis size endorsed by the medical community.

What treatments can actually increase penis size?

There are procedures that promise penile enlargement, but effectiveness varies and still depends on further studies for validation in different clinical indications.

See the main available methods:

1 – Hyaluronic acid filler

It is a minimally invasive procedure aimed mainly at increasing thickness. It can be indicated for aesthetic purposes, correction of asymmetries, or cases of mild penile retraction.

The application lasts, on average, from 10 to 30 minutes. The circumference gain usually varies between 0.5 and 1 cm, and results can last from 1 to 2 years.

2 – Pubic liposuction

It does not promote direct penis enlargement, but can improve its appearance. The procedure reduces excess fat in the suprapubic region, leaving the penis more exposed and visibly larger.

It is more indicated for men who are overweight or have fat accumulation in the region, even after weight loss.

3 – Penile prosthesis

The penile prosthesis does not increase penis size. Its objective is to restore penile rigidity in cases of severe erectile dysfunction, allowing sexual activity to be performed.

When to see a urologist?

A man should see a urologist whenever there are changes related to penile anatomy, regardless of measurements.

Medical evaluation is essential to discover the existence of nodules or hormonal issues that may affect size.

For more information about treatment options suitable for your case, it is recommended to consult a specialist in urology.
