Signs that show you need to treat a curved penis
Having a curved penis is normal. Regardless of the reason, men should not be ashamed of this anatomical issue of their penis, they should instead be cautious and find out whether the tortuosity disrupts their sexual life.
There are cases in which the curvature is minimal and it causes no problems. However, sometimes it is necessary to make a treatment to straighten the penis and avoid sexual or psychological problems resulting from this condition.
What direction does the penis bend to?
The tortuosity of the penis occurs because of the difference in the elasticity of the penile tissues. It can bend sideways, upwards (towards the navel), or downwards. The last type is the most common condition and, most of times, requires a surgery to treat it because the sexual intercourse can be severely impaired due to the unfavorable anatomy for penetration. This scenario also predisposes the occurrence of traumas and fissures in the penis which can aggravate the curvature.
If you were born with a curved penis, you probably noticed it during puberty. These are the cases of Congenital Penile Curvature of genetic origins. Nevertheless, if the limb become curved over time, a possible diagnosis is Peyronie’s disease.
Whatever the situation, it is important to be cautious to the signs that show you when you need to treat the penile curvature. That is why I will list 5 symptoms below.
1. Difficulty in penetration
Normal penetration should occur smoothly and with no pain. If you notice that your penis bends at these times, or if you find it difficult to adjust it with the hand to fit it in, that might be a sign that you have an aggravated curvature. The difficulty in the penetration can also cause discomfort to the partner, fissures and even break the penis, which can lead to more serious problems.
2. Lack of firmness for penetratation
If the penis can get erect, but not enough for a comfortable and safe penetration. The lack of firmness may be due to the penile anatomy, especially in cases in which the man has a long and thin penis. Other causes for the lack of firmness are the problems of erectile dysfunction, more common to occur to men over 45 years of age. The diagnosis of your condition can only be confirmed after a medical consultation with an urologist, so if you think that your erection is not enough to perform the sexual act, seek for help.
3. Penis folds or escapes easily during sexual intercourse –
If the penis folds or escapes easily during intercourse, it is a sign that the tortuosity is disturbing and needs treatment. In addition to the risks for men’s health, since this situation can cause traumas during penetration, this can still cause a lot of discomfort to the man, who needs to be aware of the position of the penis all the time, besides limiting sexual positions and disrupting the back and forth movement.
4. Pain and discomfort for the partner
When you have a slight tortuosity, penetration occurs with no problem. But a sign that your penis needs treatment for straightening is when your partner feels pain during penetration. That happens when the penis has enough firmness for penetration with a certain help and favorable position, but its sinuous anatomy can cause discomfort and pain to those who are being penetrated.
5. Pain on the penis after the sexual act
Whoever has a bent penis often can, yes, perform the sexual act normally. Often tortuosity does not disturb that much; even so it is prudent to observe other associated symptoms. If the penis becomes sore after sexual intercourse, this may be a sign that it is being forced inappropriately during penetration. Despite the discomfort, after all nobody likes to feel pain, this can evolve for Peyronie.
The importance of seeing an urologist
It is important that men see an urologist at least once a year to check-up and see if everything is going well down below, especially from the age of 40s on, when the chances of developing prostate cancer increase.
The signs above are indications that the penile curvature needs treatment; however, this will be only confirmed after performing specific tests to evaluate the curvature and take care of it in a preventive way. During sex, do not forget the use of water based lubricants. Couples of all ages should do that, but especially those of advanced age. This is a good way to prevent the curvature to aggravate and the development of Peyronie’s disease.
